Local Floral Arrangements for the Big Party
Flowers When the Grand Old Party comes to Minnesota in September for the 2008 Republican National Convention they will probably see the work of local florist and former "Sound of Music" child-actor Debbie Turner Larson.

After an excellent showing at a convention floral vendor day in April, Larson - who played Marta in the original "The Sound of Music" - was selected as one of four preferred florists.

"It's huge. It's very, very huge," she said in an interview to the Star Tribune published today. "It's something that I wish my parents were here to see. My dad was a dyed-in-the-wool conservative, and they would have just been tickled pink."

Words of Wisdom

Today I was reminded of some wise words of one of our beloved ex- Presidents:

* You cannot help the poor, by destroying the rich.

* You cannot strengthen the weak, by weakening the strong.

* You cannot bring about prosperity, by discouraging thrift.

* You cannot lift the wage earner up, by pulling the wage payer down.

* You cannot further the brotherhood of man, by inciting class hatred.

* You cannot build character and courage, by taking away people's initiative and independence.

* You cannot help people permanently, by doing for them what they could and should, do for themselves.

Abraham Lincoln.

The Governors Mansion, Tea with the First Lady

Today I was invited to a "Tea for the 1006 Summit Avenue Society" for the preservation of the Governor's mansion. It was a lovely reception with a beautiful selection of pastries, fruit, coffee, tea & soft drinks. The First Lady of Minnesota, Mary Pawlenty greeted me as I entered the lovely home of the governor & family. I met up with my dear friend, Mary Wozniak, and sipped tea and chatted with some of our other friends.

They talked about how important the "1006 Society" was, and how the mansion is used to entertain dignitaries world wide; most recently during the Republican National Convention.

Jaime Makepeace Wedding

Last week in September

I have been working on a decorating job for Suburban Imaging in Edina, MN, Southdale Medical Center. Having almost finished up on Wednesday of last week, we have one more tree to build and deliver. The kick-off reception was Thursday of last week. Success!

Also, we designed a lovely "fall" wedding on Saturday. The weather was overcast, but not rainy. Perfect for photographs!

Robert Urich Foundation Event

On Saturday, September 13, 2008 I attended the first Official Robert Urich Foundation fundraiser in Northridge, California with my film sister and Robert's widow, Heather Menzies Urich, my sister, Patricia Turner & life long friend, Lee Reichenbach. We also celebrated Peter Hankwitz's 40th birthday who requested in lieu of gifts that we donate to the Robert Urich foundation.

DTO flowers, also known as Debbie Turner Originals is a premier floral design company located in the SW suburbs of Minneapolis. Our main focus is larger events, such as weddings and large parties, but we are happy to help out with smaller special occasions as well. We were thrilled to have been selected by the National Republican Committee as "Preferred Florist" for the Republican National Convention in 2008.
